If you have a new puppy, chances are it’ll take a while before he or she is properly potty trained. During this time, accidents will happen, and if you want to avoid your stress of having a clean home clashing with your love for your puppy, it’s best to have a strategy in place for dealing with messes as soon as you discover them. One way to eliminate messes is to have your puppy wear dog diapers throughout the training process. If you don’t like that idea, here is some cleaning advice.

The biggest issue is pet urine. For this one, you have to make sure that you clean it while it’s still fresh, so you can easily get the odor out of your carpet, or any other affected surface. Use a deep cleaning agent to prevent the urine from staining your carpet and keep the odor from enduring. If you didn’t discover the stain soon enough, repeat the process several times, and possibly prepare the area using an enzyme-based formula after which you can keep a clean damp towel over it for up to 48 hours to ensure that the enzymes do their work properly.

For vomit and feces, fast action is also important, but using the right cleaning methods can be even more important in some cases. Planet Urine enzyme-based cleaning formulas are ideal for this purpose, but in some cases, when your surfaces also contain dyes or are more fragile, it might be necessary to use a milder formula in combination with a gentle deep cleaning agent and a pre-treater that is especially designed to protect dyes.
The post New Puppy Parents Guide to Cleaning Up Messes first appeared on Planet Urine.

Ensuring that your dog’s diaper can stay on is very important especially while you’re traveling or if your older canine companion is urine and/or fecal incontinent. Regardless of what the source of the issue is, your dog might be uncomfortable wearing diapers, just like human babies are often uncomfortable with it. You can’t really hold it against them… What you can do is ensure that the dog diapers fit properly. That is, in fact, the best way to make sure they can’t take it off.

Unfortunately, the solution isn’t that simple all the time. Diapers come in standard sizes, and not all doggies fit the same size. So you might want to consider one or more of the following additional measures:

You can fit your dog with a onesie. Baby onesies are great for smaller dogs, and they can keep a loose diaper in place more effectively. All you have to do is punch a hole in to make sure their tail can wiggle freely. Just make sure you do it before you make your dog wear the onesie. You definitely don’t want to snap the tail off along with the fabric!

Canine suspenders can be used in a similar way as the common onesie, but with a better option for fastening them snugly yet comfortably onto your dog’s torso.

You can also use training methods such as positive reinforcement and distraction to condition your dog to not pay so much attention to the diaper. This often works, since dogs are typically very open to being trained and pleasing their masters.

Bringing home a new puppy will enlarge your family with a super-cute, four-legged furry member and will bring you lots of joy, too, but be prepared that you will have some work to do, too. House training your puppy is very important – you should start setting the rules and helping your puppy learn them from day one.

Here are some tips how to do it right:

Determine the rules – sit down with your entire family and discuss the rules that everyone should comply with. Discuss whether your puppy will be allowed in the house and which of your rooms it will be allowed to enter and determine the tasks that each of your family members will be in charge of;

Follow your puppy closely for a few days – puppies tell you when they need to go out, so pay attention to the signs. Rubbing the puppy’s nose into its excrement is not a good way of house training the pet – a much more efficient way is to follow the puppy and to take it outside whenever it starts becoming agitated or sniffing around to find a good place; Removing pet stains on hardwood floors is difficult, so be ready with the best cleaner available through Planet Urine to avoid permanent stains and smells.

Create a schedule for your puppy – determine the time of the day when your puppy needs to go out and make sure that your young dog can go outside in those periods. Puppies learn very fast, so if you are willing to invest the time and the energy, you are likely to have a house trained pet in a couple of weeks.

Most dog parents love to talk about their pups. We discuss their latest tricks, how cute they look when they sleep, and that adorable thing they did this morning to try and stop you from leaving the house.

What we don’t often talk about to our friends is their potty training. Nobody really wants to discuss poop over coffee, but it’s an important part of any dog’s training. Not just puppies, either – you may find yourself with an adult dog who needs to be potty trained.

Learning how to do it right can save you plenty of frustration. If you’re potty training your dog, here’s how.

Puppy Potty Training

House training your puppy might seem like a mammoth task, but they learn very quickly if you do it the right way! You should start working on house training at around 12 weeks of age.

Create A Schedule

You may be surprised to learn that dogs are creatures of habit. If you start them off with a routine from an early age, it’s likely to stick.

Begin with regular feeding times, scheduled playtime, and naps. Take them outside immediately after every one of these activities, to the same spot every time.

Pick A Potty Spot

Choose a particular potty spot not too far from the door and take your pup there every time. He’ll soon begin to associate the spot with doing his thing.

If your puppy has to spend a lot of time alone indoors, create a “puppy pad spot” as well as an outdoor spot. It’s a good idea to use a small crate for this purpose.

Reward & Reinforce

Once your puppy has finished his business (and only once he’s fully done) reward him with a treat or plenty of love, or both.

Adult Dog Potty Training

Dogs are naturally clean animals. They don’t want to be living in a poop and urine-soaked house any more than you do!

If you find yourself with a completely untrained adult dog, follow the same procedure as you would for a puppy.

Adults can be a little more complicated. They may be going in the house due to separation anxiety, marking territory, or because there’s urine you can’t see and they think it’s their potty spot.

Tips & Tricks

Puppies can hold it in for one hour per month of age – ie. a 6-month old pup can hold it for about 6 hours.

Pick up the water bowl an hour or two before bed.

Don’t leave food out in between meals.

Supervise your puppy indoors whenever you can.

Signs that your pup needs to go include door scratching, restlessness, sniffing around, and “circling”.

Conclusion

Potty training your dog doesn’t have to be difficult or complicated! Do it the right way, and they’ll learn quicker than you think. Be patient – it can take 4 to 6 months. If you really struggle, you could get some professional help.

Just be sure to give positive reinforcement, and whatever you do with your dog, do it with love, treats, and cuddles!

When you get a new puppy, your kids might be over the moon with joy. However, with that joy comes a lot of responsibility as you and your family integrate the puppy and help him take his first steps in a larger world. Potty training is a big part of the issue, and you likely already checked the internet to see how to do it. Here are a few simple but important tips that you might not have considered yet:

Since dogs are essentially den animals, it helps to start by crate training your puppy. Make sure you get a right size crate that will not convince the pup that he has the freedom to both potty and sleep there.

You can opt for the use of potty pads to train your pup, but these are a little tricky to use. Still, if you’re planning on training your new puppy indoors, then potty pads might be one of your best options.

Make sure you only aim to train your puppy when you are calm and you’re sure that you can assert your patience. A lot of patience and dedication is required when potty training a young pup, since the aim is basically to condition the puppy to get used to go potty in a certain area.

While potty training your pup, accidents are sure to happen. So make sure that you account for them and get some healthy, non-hazardous cleaning formulas, stain removers and odor removers here https://www.planeturine.com/ that will help you get pet urine out of most surfaces without an issue.

Puppies can often be very fun to play with, and they can really lift your spirits. However, if you want to do your job responsibly as the fur baby’s parent, you’ll have to figure out how to house train your pup so that he/she will not have any issues when wanting to go potty, establishing a good eating schedule and learning to go out at certain intervals.

First, make sure you establish a strict feeding schedule and take away the food between meals to reinforce the lesson. Also, make sure you show your pup any areas that are off limits and give them a treat each time they remember it – like each time they want to jump up onto the furniture but they stop themselves.

To get started potty training your pup, you can potty train your pup by taking him/her out first thing in the morning and then about once an hour until he/she learns the specific spot and figures out what to do. To help things along, you’ll have to clearly designate a potty area, have your puppy stand by the back door as a cue that he/she wants to go potty and make sure you take proper measures when you’re busy or not at home. When you leave the house, consider using disposable puppy diapers to minimize puppy accidents on your hardwood or carpeted floors.

Puppies thrive on affection and positive reinforcement. So make sure you engage with them and have lots of fun together while learning and playing. Sooner than you think, your puppy will figure out the right spot each time, and learn to respect all the schedules and off-limits areas like a pro.
The post Puppy House Training Tips – How to Teach Your Pup All the Main Rules first appeared on Planet Urine.
