How do I keep my dog from being terrified during thunderstorms?

Question:

My dog is absolutely terrified of thunderstorms. He starts pacing the house and acting very nervous long before the storm actually hits. When the storm does hit, look out, because Mojo is frantically trying to find a safe place to hide. Do you have any suggestions on what we can do to try to help ease his incredible fear of storms and loud noises?

Gail - Billings, MT

Answer:

Yes, I do have a great suggestion for your to try on your dog Mojo. This is a new technique that I just learned about and I have heard that it works wonders on keeping your dog calm during storms, fireworks, etc.

Gently hold your dog and use an eyedropper and put 3-4 drops of mineral oil in the right and left ears of your dog. Once the drops are in his ears, gently place two cotton balls in each ear.

To keep the mineral oil and cotton balls in, and to add additional noise protection, I recommend you wrap a PU Housetraining Wrapper™ around your dogs ears to hold everything in place.

Your dog (and you) can now finally relax during thunderstorms, fireworks displays, etc...

If you have any more questions about how to use this technique, please feel free to contact us.
